Quick and Easy Tips for Cleaning Your Jewelry at Home
Have you looked at your jewelry and thought it could use a little love? Or maybe it's not as shiny as when you bought it. Well you're not wrong, even fine jewelry will dull over time when exposed to sweat, body oil or makeup. To help with that here are three tips to clean your gold jewelry at home and leave it shining (almost) like new!
The first way to clean your jewelry at home is the easiest and most affordable. Simply add two to three drops of dish detergent to a small bowl of warm water and put your jewelry in the solution. Remove your jewelry after five minutes and use a soft toothbrush to scrub chains or ring settings if necessary. Rinse with warm water and lay on a towel to dry.
A second method is similar in process but a slightly more thorough cleaning. You can purchase a jewelry cleaning solution such as Connoisseurs, make sure the solution explicitly says it's meant to clean gold, diamonds and gemstones. Just as with the dish washing soap, leave your jewelry in the solution for 30 seconds and brush if necessary, rinse with warm water and lay on a towel to dry. When using this method to clean our Line Suspender Stud Earrings and Dorado Chain Ring, they looked as good as new.
If you're in a hurry and want a quick jewelry cleaning, you can use a jewelry cleaning cloth which removes tarnish and gives jewelry a nice shiny finish. You can find jewelry cleaning cloths on Amazon or Bed Bath and Beyond.
Finally, it's important to remember to remove your jewelry if you're going to be swimming in a pool or applying tanning solutions to your skin. A good rule of thumb is for jewelry to go on last when you're dressing and come off first when undressing.
